Final round at Silverstone sees victory for Rymer
Terry Rymer and Geoff Lister battled home in convincing style in the last round
of the Privilege Insurance British GT championship race at Silverstone.
The PK Porsche pairing were dominating every time they were on the race track.
Terry was actually three seconds faster than even the more powerful GT cars in
the first qualifying session in soaking wet conditions.
"The water was lying everywhere it was all you could do just to see, let alone
drive a race car at 160mph" said Terry.
Yet he managed to astound the whole GT paddock by going fastest. The second session
saw Geoff Lister in the car in slightly dryer conditions keeping the PK Porsche
on pole.
Sunday morning arrived with much clearer looking skies. Terry and Geoff were ready
for their third win of the season, there was a change of plan for this the final
race meeting of the year: Geoff was going to start first allowing Terry to experience
taking the chequered flag!
The race started with the usual ear deafening roar of thirty eight GT cars speeding
down the start finish straight, Geoff was in great form and after only three laps
was building an assailable lead over Rob Barf in the works TVR in second position.
Thirty minutes had flown by it was now Terry's turn to take to the famous Silverstone
GP circuit. Geoff had pulled eighteen seconds out on the second placed TVR and
it was now Terry's job to at least hold the mean green TVR machine of Martin Short
at bay until the end of the race.
Martin never posed a problem for the Kentish based ex-motorcycle racer after only
five laps he had pushed the PK Porsche to twenty three seconds into the lead,
all he needed to do now was bring the car home in one piece. Then two laps from
the end it started to rain heavily so Rymer decided to take it very easy taking
the chequered flag by eighteen seconds.
Geoff said "We really have dominated all weekend, I can't tell you how happy we
all are with this result".
"It's been a great weekend for the whole team and all of our backers. We have
worked so hard as a team to get these results that it seems a shame to end the
season. All I want to do now is race! I can't wait for next year to unleash hell
on our competitors" said Terry.
