Terry Rymer, the current World Superbike Endurance champion, is the latest star
name to commit to the Privilege Insurance British GT Championship. Rymer will
pilot a PK Sport Porsche 911GT2 in a career move aimed to take him towards the
Le Mans 24-hour sportscar race. Having twice won the 24-hour motor cycle endurance
race at the famous French venue, Rymer now has an ambition to repeat the success
on four wheels and wants to build his experience in the British GT Championship.
"I want to be the only man in history to win Le Mans on two and four wheels,"
says Rymer.
"I've just retired from motor cycle sport. I wanted to go out on top and I've
done that. Now I want to have a go at cars. 2000 will be a learning year and I
think I can learn a lot from Mike Pickup and his team," he continues.
For his first full season of car racing, Rymer will race in PK Sport's four-strong
Porsche line up and will use one of the superb 911GT2 models in the GT category.
"I tested the car last year and it seems like the best option for me."
A second driver for the car is yet to be confirmed, but Rymer will benefit from
the team's extensive experience which includes the Daytona 24 hour race.
Having raced all over the world on two wheels, Rymer is looking forward to this
new challenge.
"I've got the race craft, I just need some time to build up some experience. I
think we can get the best from the car!"
Rymer will start his campaign when the championship kicks off at Thruxton on Sunday
26 March.
