Rymer on pole for round seven
Terry Rymer and Geoff Lister once again started from pole position at Donnington Park - round seven of the Privilege Insurance British GT Championship.
Experienced GT racer Geoff Lister put the PK Porsche on pole after setting a blistering time of 1.37.154 ahead of arch rivals Mark Sumptner and Mike Jordan. Terry and the team were happy with the set up of the newly shelled car (the old chassis was smashed at Brands) and were confident of a race win but then the heavens opened and torrential rain fell on the Derbyshire circuit.
This would change a number of things not only for the drivers but for the teams with the possibilities of tyre changes within the race as the prospect of a drying track was a real threat.
Terry and Geoff went with rain tyres as most of the other competitors did, but they did not go for a softer chassis setting which ultimately cost them the race.
Terry says he took the "Captain sensible...' approach to the start of the race and drove well within himself making sure not to make any silly mistakes. "We were struggling with the dry set up of the car in the race" continued Terry "We chose the dry setting hoping that the track would eventually dry for Geoff's stint in the car".
But it was a gamble that never paid off. The PK Sport team made an excellent pit stop allowing the number 42 car into the lead, but Geoff found it difficult to hold the advantage on the still very greasy track.
Geoff said "It was really frustrating as we found that we could get no grip on the brakes into the turns or on the power exiting, but that's the decision we made, at least we can go to Croft now
and expect a win".
Our dynamic duo went on to finish third in class.
